REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PAMEKASAN - Former Chairman of Constitutional Court, Mahfud MD said upholding rule of law was a solution to solve problems in nation's crisis. Without it, Mahfud said on Monday, "Otherwise, uncertainty will only lead to law violation," Mahfud said on Monday.
Mahfud who is also Chairman of Presidium of Muslim Students Association Alumni Corps (KAHMI) explained that current economic condition was not consistent to existing data on poverty in this country. At macro level, Indonesia ranks second in Asia as its economic consistently rose 6.5 percent. However, poverty rate is still very high, reached 107.7 million of total population in Indonesia (237,641,326 people).
Ideally, economic growth must be in line with elimination of the poor, rather than vice versa, he said. Clean governance, free from corruption, collusion and nepotism should be applied to all levels of government. Government's good will to improve system should be embedded at all levels of society based on moral values as well as better understanding of religous values.
