REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono nominates Army Chief of Staff Gen Moeldoko to command armed forces (TNI), replacing Adm Agus Suhartono who will retire this month. The nomination was mentioned in a proposal addresed to Chairman of House of Representative.
"President Yudhoyono only propses one name to fill that position," as quoted from an official website, www.setkab.go.id on Thursday.
Previously, Adm Agus Suhartono said there were three candidates prepared to replace him. Traditionally, TNI Commander position was from Army. Only currently that a Navy personnel fill the position. Hence, there is a possibility that the next commander comes from Army or Air Forces.
Suhartono will be retired on August 23, 2013. The man born on August 25, 1955 head Indonesian armed forces since September 28, 2010 replaced his predecessor Gen Djoko Santoso. While Moeldoko was born in Kediri, East Java on July 8, 1957.
