Antam and German company to expand plant in Pomala

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - State-owned diversified miner PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) cooperates with German Company, SMS Siemag to expand ferronickel plant in Pomala, Southeast Sulawesi. Both companies have signed a contract of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) on supply of electrodes equipment for Electric Smelting Furnace No. 4 (ESF-4). Contract for ESF-4 electrodes procurement is worth 75 billion USD with an estimated construction for 18 months. 

"The procurement of electrodes equipment by SMS Siemag reflects the use of safer and practical modern technology in its operation," President Director of Antam, Tato Miraza said on Wednesday.

Facility of ESF-4 has a capacity of 38 mega watts, with production capacity of 9,450 tons of nickle per year. Construction of ESF-4 is estimated to be conducted in 22 months at most.

With development of ESF-4 which is part of ferronickel plant expansion project inPomala, Antam has increase ferronickel production from 18 thousand-20 thousand tons per year becomes 25 thousand to 27 thousand tons per year.
