President Soekarno's movie to be released this year

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR – A journey of Soekarno, the first President of Indonesia who declared Indonesian independence will be on big screen this year. Movie tittled "Soekarno: Indonesia Merdeka!" is directed by Hanung Bramantyo.

"Filming process was initially expected to be completed within 45 days, but it is extended to 70 days. One of location in the movie is set in Bogor Botanical Garden," Bramantyo said on Sunday.

The film focuses on three main characters, Soekarno, Moh Hatta (the vice president then) and Sutan Sjahrir (a revolutionary independence leader). The three discussed one purpose, namely independence of Indonesia. Actors involved in this movie are Ario Bayu as Soekarno, Lukman Sardi as Hatta, and Tanta Gonting as Sjahrir.

Bramantyo is known for his movie, Habibie & Ainun, based on a biography of the third President of Indonesia and his late wife, Hasri Ainun Besari. The story is widely popular and becomes among succesfull local movies in Indonesia.
