REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises plans to sell state-owned domestic carrier, PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines (Merpati). Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Dahlan Iskan gives two months for potential investors to submit its offers.

"We will give two months to investors to send proposal or convey its ideas to solve problems of Merpati. We invite investors to save Merpati which is currently burdened with debt up to six trillion IDR," Iskan said on Friday.

Number of shares to be offered is unlimited. Ministry of SOEs have been trying to restructure Merpati several times, started by injecting funds, reducing employees, moving the head office, including restructuring the debts to private creditors by converting debt into shares.

In late December 2011, Merpati obtained an injection funds worth 561 billion IDR from the state budget. However additional injection that was proposed in 2012 was not realized. The Ministry has also formed Restructuring Team, but until now was not able to develop the company.

Merpati airline began its operation to break the isolation of remote areas in Indonesia and thereby helping to build the economies of such regional areas. This airline has big potential to develop.
