Governor to revoke permit of companies causing fires

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALANGKARAYA - Governor of Central Kalimantan, Agustin Teras Narang, will revoke licenses of plantation and mining companies if they are proven to cause fire in that area. The perpetrators will also be handed over to the police and make them held accountable.

"Any company causing the fire will be penalized and we will revoke your permissions," Narang said on Monday.

Total hotspots in Central Kalimantan now is more than 60 points. Narang said the fires impact would bring disaster to forest area and peat land.

Staff of Public Relation at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Agus Wibowo said government deployed 2,252 people to extinguish the fire. The personnel are from the Army Strategic Reserve Command (600 personnel), the Army Navy Marines (600), the Army Air Force (630), police (320), as well as BNPB and Ministry of Forestry (102).

Secretary General of Ministry of Forestry, Hadi Daryanto is cautious especially when it related to industrial timber forest (HTI). Government is still continuing to investigate the alleged the forest fires in Sumatra. 

"If convicted, the perpetrators will be subjected to criminal penalties up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of 15 billion IDR," Daryanto said.
