REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono dismayed by the way Singaporean media reported about Indonesia.

"I think many articles are baseless and tarnish Indonesian reputation because those articles said Indonesia only caused problems to it neighbor. In fact, we try hard to contain the haze issues seriously," Yudhoyono said recently.

His comments refer to some articles published in Singapore said Indonesia continued to pollute the air in Singapore since 1997.

The president said that haze this year was influenced by some factors including extreme weather conditions, heat, burnt peatlands, and human factor. Referring to his apologies to Malaysia and Singapore over the haze issue, Yudhoyono said it should not have been politicized or diverted to other issues. He took an example, despite bilateral relations were good with Singapore and Malaysia but Indonesia took clear stance on extradition treaty and migrant worker issue.
