REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU - Haze in Pekanbaru in Riau starts to affect human health. Most people use masks to cover to protect their .

"It stings my eyes, my views is not clear and I suffer from short breath," Naya, a housewife living in Pekanbaru, said on Wednesday.

Analyst of Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) at Pekanbaru, Tri Puryanti said in the last three years, number of hotspots in Riau soared, triggered by drought and small volume of rain in past month. On June 15, BMKG recorded hotspots in Riau were 78. On June 16, the number increased to 115 spots. On June 17, number of hotspots recorded slightly lower but still about 103 spots.

"Pelalawan has the most hot spot (26 spots), Rokan Hilir (19 spots), Siak (18 spots), Bengkalis (16 spots), Indragiri Hilir (13 spots), Dumai (9 spots), Rokan Hulu (3 spots), Pekanbaru (1 spot) and Meranti (1 spot)," Puryanti said.

Thisi is the worst case ini the last 16 years that affected Singapore and Malaysia as both goverments issue to.

ollutant Standard Index (PSI) in Singapore at night reached 155, above the healthy limit of 100. It was the highest level since 1997. In a statement, Singapore's National Environment Agency urged Indonesian government to take step to mitigate transboundary haze pollution.
