REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister of Economy, Hatta Rajasa said Jatigede Dam construction project in Sumedang, West Java should be accelerated. Government prepares budget one trillion IDR or 101.99 million USD for relocation compensation allocated for people living on the area.

Jatigede Dam is expected to become the second largest dam in Indonesia after Jatiluhur Dam in Purwakarta with the volume of water exceeding 1 billion cubic meters. Rajasa said the dam could irrigate rice fields up to 90 thousand hectares, supply hydro-power plant, and support other economic activities.

"The problem is that we haven't completed the land acquisition, hence we are committed to complete the compensation because the dam must be filled with water in this October," Rajasa said on Tuesday.

In the first verification, government has relocated 4,590 households and there were still 2,713 households remaining. Coordination meeting led by Rajasa said it needed a presidential regulation to solve the problem.
