Indonesia to support UN on North Korean issues

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Minister of Foreign Affairs Marty Natalegawa said Indonesian stance related to North korea was clear, that Indonesia supported resolution of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights. In earlier session at the UN, Indonesia chose to abstained on this issue.

"We have to support that resolution," Natalegawa said it on Saturday. He explained that the North Korean problem had many dimensions, such as humanitarian concerns relations between the two Koreas, North and South. There was also a security dimension and violation of human rights.

Earlier, in ajoint press release, Indonesian Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) with the North Korean Human Rights (NKHR) urged the role of Indonesia to encourage the settlement on human rights issues in North Korea. Kontras-NKHR also urged Indonesian government to encourage North Korea to stop gross human rights violations that occurred and they should no longer to cover it.

The UN asked North Korea not to conduct their long-range missil test. The world body plans to impose sanctions to North Korea for any violation of the UH mandate. North Korea is believed to have nuclear capability in which increase tension in Korean Peninsula.
