New cases of bird flu reported in Yogya

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, ‪YOGYAKARTA - Some new cases avian influenza (H5N1) were reported n Yogyakarta. The infected chickens are mostly from traditional market as some sellers keep alive chickens there. 

A total of 22 cases have been reported so far, 20 chickens were confirmed infected by bird flu in Bantul and two others in Yogya. “The test result shows this is H5N1 and the cases occured  within a week," said Coordinator of Local Disease Control Center (LDCC), Department of Agriculture Yogyakarta, Tri Wahana on Wednesday. 

The avian flu occurs naturally among birds, but the virus can be transmitted to humans. Wahana said, LDCC would apply standard operating procedure (SOP) to contain the possible outbreak.
