REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Governor of Jakarta, Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, encourages restaurants in the capital city to obtain halal certification to serve people's demand on sharia tourism.

"We want to meet the demand from Jakarta and abroad," Jokowi said on Wednesday.

He claimed that people demanded halal certification to ensure that the food they were eating was halal.  "We don't want them doubt about the food they consume at our restaurants so the halal certificate is important," he said.

Jokowi also said that Jakarta city administration would cooperate with Indonesian Board of Ulama (MUI) to monitor the halal certification periodically.
