Two military aircrafts Su-30MK2 arrive in Makassar, more to come

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - A first batch consisted of two military aircraft Su-30MK2 and additional equipment were delivered at the Indonesian Air Force base Hasanuddin in Makassar, South Sulawesi. According to a press release from the Russian Embassy in Jakarta, the aircrafts arrived on February 22, 2013. 

The delivery was made according to the contract signed by the JSC "Rosoboronexport" and the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia on December 29, 2012. At present, Russian specialists engaged with assembling aircrafts. Second and third batches under the contract are expected to be completed in the period up to July 2013. 

The JSC "Rosoboronexport" is part of the State Corporation "Russian Technologies" and is the only Russian state intermediary for export and import of defense and dual-use products, services and technologies.

 

Double-seat fighter

According to the company's official sites of the Su-30MK2, the multi-role fighter is designed to gain air superiority through killing hostile manned and unmanned aircraft with guided missiles in medium-range engagements and dogfights, and surface (ground and sea) targets. It has cability to destroy all types of weapon, first of all with high precision weapon in individual and group operations in all-weather conditions. 

The aircraft can be used for training flying personnel to hone their flying and fighting skills. The back-seater reduces the pilot's workload in long-range PGM encounters, in nighttime operations and on protracted missions with in-flight refuelling.
