REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Minister of Finance Agus Martowardojo, nominated as the Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, plans to focus on inflation ans fiscal health.

"I will continue what has been done by the current governor," Martowardojo said on Tuesday. He added that controlling inflation and maintaining monetary health by conducting fiscal harmonization would create the stable financial system.

Minister Martowardojo also suggested financial service authority (OJK) to take the role of monitoring commercial bank. He also plans to maintain the role of Indonesian monetary authority in international forum and continue the reformation that has been carried out by BI.

"It is also important to cooperate with the independent financial system institutions," he said.

Martowardojo was nominated as the governor of BI in 2008 with Raden Pardede. However, the major members of the House of Representatives turned them down during fit and proper test. "Now I am confident because President trusts me to become the governor of BI," he said.
