REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Government of Indonesia will use electric cars during APEC Summit in Bali next October. "Every vehicle used in the location of APEC Summit must be green car, particularly electric car," Coordinating Minister of Economy, Hatta Rajasa, said on Wednesday.
This government's initiative is aimed to develop vehicle using renewable energy, decreasing fossil fuel energy consumption. Rajasa said Indonesia was committed to develop green energy, in line with the theme of APEC, Engine for balanced, sustainable growth with equity.
A team, involving Minister of National Education and Minister of Research and Technology, has been established to develop the technology of electric car. "We will do some research and tests. The government will provide incentives to support the car mass production," Rajasa said.
The team will develop high quality electric car made by Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) and Institut Technologi Bandung (ITB). Then, Ministry of Transportation will conduct feasibility test, while Ministry of Industry will carry out international standard test.
"I hope every vehicle used in APEC is electric car, except for the president who will use his own car," he said.
