REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GAZA CITY - After an UN upgraded Palestine status to a "non-member state", Indonesia will soon open a representative office in Palestine to strengthen diplomatic relationship. The Head of Indonesian House of Representatives Delegation to Palestine, Mahfudz Siddiq, said that he was studying technical step of opening the representative office in Palestine.

"A new status of Palestine is a momentum for Indonesia to show its political support," he said on Friday as reported by M Akbar Wijaya from Republika.

"Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and Palestine is usually connected through Indonesian Embassy in Amman, Jordan," he added.

Government is still studying on the location of the representative office. One of good options is that Indonesia will open the office in West Bank.

Palestine responded well to Indonesian plan and they thanked Indonesia for the support. "Indonesia support, particularly Indonesian Minister for Foreign Affairs, for Palestine in UN is meaningful," A Hamas member for Foreign Affairs, Moshir al-Masri, said and added that the new status was not the end, instead, it was just a beginning. He believes that Indonesia will always support Palestine.
