REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG - Indonesian condemns an advertisement offering “Indonesian maids for sale” in Malaysia. As a protest, a member of Commission IX at House of Representatives, Rieke Diah Pitaloka, sent an open letter to Malaysian Embassy in Indonesia today.

She urged Malaysian Government to revoke the advertisement because it was considered underestimating Indonesians. The Director of Migrant Care, Anis Hidayat, informed her about the brochure placed in public places in Kuala Lumpur.

The advertisement says that Indonesia maids are now on sale. It says that the price for an Indonesia maid is only 7,500 RM.

"This is a downturn of human rights," she said on Monday. On her letter to Malaysia Embassy, she asked Malaysian Government to take firm step towards the agent spreading the advertisement.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia, Dato Syed Munshe Afdzaruddin Bin Syed Hassan, said on Monday that the brochure of Indonesian maids was unofficial advertisement. He claimed that the government had reported it to the police.

Munshe admitted that he did not know who made the advertisement. The government is coordinating with the police to investigate the case. He hopes the case will not affect to relationship between Indonesian and Malaysia.
