SBY opens International Microfinance Conference 2012

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) opened International Microfinance Conference (IMC) where he also would receive an award from Global Microcredit Summit Campaign for his success on implementing microfinance through People's Business Credit (KUR).

"The Director of Global Microcredit Summit Campaign, Larry Reed, will presented the achievement in International Microfinance Conference (IMC)," Minister of Cooperatives and Small Medium Enterprises, Syarifuddin Hasan, said on Monday.

Held until October 23, International Microfinance Conference is an event to exchange information, ideas, and knowledge to encourage the innovation in microfinance. The conference, first time in Indonesia, is attended by representatives of 23 countries. 

"Government successfully implements microfinance through People's Business Credit. It should be promoted to international world," he said. The microfinace is aimed to diminish poverty and unemployment in Indonesia.

SBY officially opened the conference on Monday and also became the keynote speaker in the event. The other speakers are the founder of Grameen Bank Muhammad Yunus, Larry Greed from Global Microcredit Summit Campaign and Jay Rosengard from Harvard University.
