REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesia is ready to welcome the arrival of officials from Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a US agency to protect human health and environment. EPA plans to trip to Indonesia to visit palm oil plantations.

"We are ready," Vice Minister of Trade Bayu Krisnamurthi said on Friday. He said that there was no reason that EPA did not recognize Indonesian Crude Palm Oil (CPO) as sustainable product.

About 1.5 million palm plantation in Indonesia has been certified by Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). The certification means that Indonesia palm has met the requirements, which are environmental friendly and sustainable.

Ministry of Trade will require every palm plantation to obtain Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification. It is also recommended to have RSPO.

The Chairman of National Standardization Body of Indonesia (BSN), Suprapto, said Indonesia had promoted ISPO to German and Russia. The certification is expected to represent the decreasing of carbon emission in around 17 percent.
