Indonesia to promote gender equality

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian Government was committed to promote gender equality for women, Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection Linda Amalia Sari Gumelar said. "Indonesian Government will implement and encourage gender equality between men and women," she said on Thursday.

She explained that Indonesia had related laws on human rights, domestic violence, trafficking, and also institutions to take care of the victims of violence. Indonesia also encourages international and regional cooperation to speed up the equality.

The act, he continued, was in accordance with an agreement made several weeks ago between Bangladesh, Denmark, Maldives, US, Indonesia, and Slovakia. The commitment, made in UN Headquarter, encourages UN members, organizations, regional organizations, and people to have a commitment on gender equality.
