Russia ready to invest on nickel and copper industries

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Russian investors are ready to invest on nickel and copper industries in around 3.25 billion USD as part of business development in Southeast Asia. Norilsk Nickel is one of the companies willing to invest in Indonesia.

The Minister of Industry MS Hidayat said on Thursday that the company would invest on the construction of copper smelting plant with the capacity on 400,000 tonnes and processing of nickel. Norilsk Nickel, operated in three continents, will cooperate with local company.

"Their interest was delivered by CEO Norilsk Nickel Vladimir Strzhalkovsky to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on the sidelines of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)," Minister Hidayat said.

Russia Aluminum (Rusal), ruling 10 percent of world aluminum, will also build a plant in Indonesia. "Rusal has surveyed several areas and they are interested in investing in Indonesia," he said

CEO Rusal Oleg Deiripaska has cooperated with local company as well. Rusal is ready to invest in around 1.5 billion USD.
