REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian government awarded a young businessman who also dedicated himself on basket ball, Erick Thohir. The award was presented by Ministry of Youth and Sports, on National Sports Day on Sunday.
"I would like to express my gratitude to Minister of Youth and Sports Andi Mallarangeng and the government. The award stimulates my spirit to work much better for Indonesian glory in sport world," Erick said who started his involvement in basket ball when he took over the management of Satria Muda.
Erick is also the first person from Indonesia who becomes President of South East Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) in 2006 until now. He also initiated ASEAN Basketball League, the First Regional Professional basketball league in South-East Asia.
"I cannot do this alone. Thanks to all stakeholders of Indonesian and Southeast Asian basket," he said.
Erick is opening the opportunity for Indonesian talent to be glorious at world level. He bought a part of Philadelphia 76ers. He is also co-owner of DC United. DC United gives an opportunity to Indonesian soccer athlete Andik Hermansyah to train with club.
