REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Government plans to give incentive to start developing electric car. The incentive, issued this year, will be united with that of low carbon emission.

"There will incentive for several environmental friendly cars, such as electric car, hybrid, and low cost and green car (LCGC)," the Minister of Industry, MS Hidayat, said.

To speed up the project, government is designing some protection such as incentive, for local industry involved in the project. The incentive will be enshrined in Presidential Decree issued on August 30, 2012. The development of electric car needs a long process and passes several tests before it is produced.

"Before the car to mass product, the manufactures needs a year or two (for series of tests)," he said.

The manufacture can be categorized as national electric car if it can produce 7,000 - 10,000 units. As a national scale industry, the producer should provide commercial service for the cars.
