Asian scientists gather attend Science Council of Asia Conference and International Symposium in Bogor on July 10-12 and the theme is "Mobilizing Science towaard Green Economy".

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR - The green economy trend is continuing in the world and now in Indonesia. Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) and other 100 scientists from 15 Asian countries discussed on Wednesday the connection between green economy and science on international symposium, 12th Science Council of Asia Conference.

The Chairman of LIPI, Lukman Hakim, said the implementation of science should be in line with green economy. "The economic concept and practice must accommodate interests between human and environment," Hakim said.

The two-day symposium was officially opened by Deputy of Research and Technology Ministry, Benyamin Lagitan. The keynote speaker was Professor Emil Salim, while the first astronaut from Japan, Mamoru Mohri, talked about his experience.

The symposium discussed on the main cause of environmental degradation and its relation with the effort to reach economic growth. Lagitan said government fully supported the joint research between Asian countries to create the green economy.

Science, Hakim said, played an important role in the development of green economy. It is also important to pay more attention to sustainable agriculture for food security and stability.

People, he said, must find an innovative way to maintain natural resources to build food security and stability. Thus, science community is expected to participate more in the development of green technology. Global food supply should also be supported by an efficient food supply chain management system.
