REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG - During a convention in Bandung on Sunday, Muhammadiyah urged the government to conduct the real steps to strengthen the sovereignty of the state. They explained that Indonesia was weak on economy, politics, law, and culture.

On the economic sector, the General Secretary of Muhammadiyah, Agung Danarto, said the weakness was obvious in some regulations on natural resources exploration which tend to serve more on foreign interests.

"Muhammadiyah urges the government to strengthen economic sovereignty by developing constitutional economy which protects and empowers national economy by prioritizing our people from foreign exploitation," he said

On politics, Muhammadiyah has doubt the Indonesian independence in drafting its public policy. “We appeal the government and House of Representatives to annul or revise the regulations that threaten the our sovereignty," he said.

In the law sector, Muhammadiyah again finds the foreign intervention in law enforcement in Indonesia. “Government must apply law enforcement without any pressure and intervention," he said.

Muhammadiyah also concerns on the weakening of national character and inferiority in facing globalization. "Government should put forward the education of character and develop the national culture strategy to emphasize on our national independence, identity, and pride," he said.
