REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) and the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) are testing two electric cars, which can travel up to hundreds kilometer without recharging. "It is not hybrid, but fully electric. We are conducting the test for city car," staff of Ministry of Research and Technology, Prof Dr Agus Hoetman, said on Thursday.

The electric cars use national made battery. This cars are also efficient, as in the traffic jam the car will not use any energy. "No parts of the machine will work when the car stop," Hoetman said.

The car is designed to travel for 150 km without recharging, but during the trial test which is conducted in Jakarta-Bandung highway, the car can even travel round-trip without recharging or around 300 km. The electric cars are the modification of minibus and old multipurpose vehicle (MPV) popular as kijang of 1994.
