REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jero Wacik, stated that he had signed the memorandum of understanding on the procurement of solar power for domestic consumption with Sharp Corporation. "Sun is sustainable energy resource. There is no other ways to push the dependency of fuel (fossil fuel –ed)," Wacik said on Tuesday.
Government and Sharp will use the model from Thailand as the country can build solar power plant in 150-hectare area which produces 75 mega watts (MW) electricity. "We are making a model for 10 hectare," Wacik said, Even though it is only producing 5 MW, it will be an important step for energy diversification. The building will be started on 2013 with the street lamps as the first customer of the project.
