REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – New Zealand is interested to invest in Indonesian geothermal and farming sectors, the Chairman of Indonesian Chamber of Commerce, Suryo Bambang Sulisto, said on Monday. “We have natural resources and New Zealand has the technology. It is one of the sectors that can be cooperated,” Sulisto said after business and investment seminar between Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and New Zealand.

New Zealand Prime Minister, John Key, brought along business delegations consist of the tradesmen in geothermal energy, flight, and food. He hopes New Zealand can be strategic partner for the development of geothermal in Indonesia. New Zealand earlier developed geothermal in Kamojang, East Java.

While the Minister of Trade Gita Wirjawan, hopes New Zealand can invest in cattle breeding. “They seem very positive towards the plan,” Wirjawan said.

The value of Indonesian trade to New Zealand in 2011 is about 1.1 billion USD. From the total trade, Indonesia still suffers the deficit on 100-200 million USD. Indonesia hopes it reaches 12 billion USD for the total trade with New Zealand.

The Free Trade Agreement between ASEAN and New Zealand is expected to increase the number of trade from Indonesia. “This will bring balance,” he said.
