REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesian Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) cooperating with Japan Agency for Marine Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) launch Multi parameter Radar (MPR) and INA TRITON Buoy on Monday as a part of disaster anticipation effort. Indonesia is the first ASEAN country that has the buoy.
“The radar sends early warning alert. The parameters are the wind and rain then we can get four or five data,” the main researcher of BPPT, Fadly Syamsudin, said.
The radar is designed to be mobile to fit the needs. It can also record the weather data.
“Data is important. We forecast the future through the previous data, including the rain cycle and the rain volume. So that in the future we can prepare for flood and draught cycle,” the representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Tomoyuki Tada, said.
Meanwhile, INA TRITON Buoy is used to monitor the weather change under and above the sea. According to the research, climate change shows its early sign in sea surface. The buoy-like device’s scope above the sea surface is ten meters and 500 meters under the sea.
“Until now, only US and Japan that has buoy technology. In Indonesia, the device will be operated in June in North Papua,” Syamsudin said.
