REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The government plans to exercise single door policy to distribute raw imported sugar to several national sugar mills. The government appointed Indonesian Trade Company (PPI) to be in charge in increasing the bargain of the company.

“There will be no speculation that leads to the increasing price,” the Minister of Agriculture, Suswono, said on Tuesday.

Private sugar mill will be prioritized for raw sugar because the State Plantation Company (PTPN) cannot be operated until June 2012. The import of raw sugar will enter Indonesia in May 2012. “That is way, private sugar mill get the priority to process raw sugar,” he said.

Government has allowed the import up to 240.000 tonnes of raw sugar or 221.000 tonnes of white crystal sugar. The number is based on the assumption on sugar deficit for a month after milling season.
