JAKARTA – Health is for all, wise man says. Yet, many cannot afford hospital fee. Some may be happier now since they have Rumah Sakit Terpadu (RST), a hospital for the poor.

The comprehensive hospital is funded by zakat or charity from Dompet Dhuafa (DD), a charity management organization. The good news is RTS even provides free treatment for the poor. The Executive Director of DD, Ahmad Juwaini, said, the charity donor can see what they give by the existence of RST.

“In one month, we can handle thousands of patients,” Juwaini said. RST has started the business from September 2011. On the next 29 February 2012, the hospital plans to conduct fully operation.

So far, the two story building of RST has 62 beds for patients. Each day, they treat 50 patients. RST can also treat hospitalized patients. Juwaini added, the patients did not need to pay even for a dime. The employee will check the condition of the patients before they are approved to be a member of RST. “The parameters are the financial condition, house condition, and the information given by the reference,” Juwaini said.

RST can also economize the cost for treating the poor. “It is two or three times more economical than sending them to other hospitals,” he said. RST has 32 doctors, ranging from general practitioners, dentists, pediatrics, internists, to obstetrics gynecologists.
