REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AMBON -- The successful completion of the Darwin to Ambon Yacht Race 2014 (DAYR-2014) has proved that the Maluku provincial city of Ambon is safe for tourists, stated Ambon Mayor Richard Louhenapessy.

"The presence of participants from numerous countries in the international yacht race from Darwin to Ambon have proven that Maluku province, particularly Ambon city, is really safe for tourists to visit," Richard noted here on Friday.

He emphasized that the presence of DAYR participants from Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Italy, and Singapore in Ambon further extends the promotion and network of tourism in Maluku.

"Their presence here will have a positive impact on tourism in the future and expel the impression that Ambon is synonymous with violence," Richard remarked.

The mayor expressed optimism that the number of participants in DAYR in the years to come will increase significantly.

After DAYR was held in 2013, the participants gave testimonials to the global network of sailors that Ambon should become a tourist destination for international sailors.

"We have to maintain conducive conditions, so that foreign tourists will continue to visit not only Ambon but also other districts and towns in the province," Richard sated.

Therefore, he called for support from the central and provincial governments and the global network of sailors to promote the international DAYR event and make it even better in the coming years.
