REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR -- he Bogor Palace opens its doors to the public between Monday and Thursday, and Saturday to mark the 532nd anniversary of Bogor city, which is expected to attract some 35 thousand visitors, stated an official.

"Bogor Palace is open for the public for five days between June 9 and 12, and on June 14, to attract as many visitors as possible," Bogor Culture and Tourism Department Chief Sri Herlina Nasution stated here on Monday.

She explained that the event this year has been named "The Palace for Public" instead of "Open Palace" as in the previous year.

"Besides online registration at the Palace for Public website since June 2, those interested to visit the Bogor Palace can also register at three locations provided by the city's culture and tourism office," Herlina noted.

She added that the public can also directly approach registration counters at the Kemuning Gading building on Kapten Muslihat Street, Graha Pena building on KH Abdullah Bin Muhammad Nuh Street, and the culture and tourism office on Pandu Street.

According to Herlina, so far, some 20 thousand people from Bogor and outside the city have registered, and the number is expected to further increase.

"Registration is free for those who want to tour the palace, but they are required to dress appropriately. They are not allowed to wear jeans, t-shirt, flip-flops, or bring along backpacks and food items," she pointed out.

Herlina remarked that during the Palace for Public event, the visitors will tour the PETA museum, the Museum of Independence Struggle, and the Etnobotani museum.

The Bogor Palace was a country retreat for Dutch governors. It was built in the mid-1700s and rebuilt in 1856 after sustaining major damages from an earthquake in 1834.

After independence, the palace was mainly used by founding President Sukarno.

It houses an extensive art collection accumulated by Sukarno during the former president's tenure.
