Tour de Central Celebes 2018 listed in UCI calendar events

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALU -- The international cycling event of Tour de Central Celebes (TdCC) II 2018, to be held in Central Sulawesi, has been listed in the Union Cyclist Internationale (UCI) calendar of events. The UCI certificate has been received by TdCC 2018 Race Director.

"Alhamdulillah (thank God), in July 2018, we have received the UCI certificate officially listing the TdCC 2018 in the UCI Race Calendar," TdCC 2018 Race Director Hasan stated when contacted here on Monday.

According to Hasan, as the race has been listed in UCI's calendar of events, in addition to bonuses from the organizing committee, the participants of TdCC 2018 would also receive UCI's points for the world's cyclist ranking.

"Hence, many international cyclists, with a high score in the UCI point system, are interested to participate in the TdCC 2018, as this event could be used to accumulate more points," he added.

UCI will send its observers to monitor the race and will be involved in the judging process. The race will be held on Oct 14-18.

As many as 21 teams from 16 countries and five teams from Indonesia have been registered as participants in the race.

"Of the 21 teams, we will select 15 teams in line with the organizing committee's capability to accommodate them. There will be a team to select them," Hasan revealed.

The 21 teams are from Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, France, China, the Netherlands, Germany, Bahrain, Spain, Iran, Russia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia, and Israel.

The TdCC will cover a 740-kilometer (km)-long route from Luwuk City in Banggai District to Palu, divided into five sections: Section I Luwuk-Ampana covering 133 km; Section II Ampana-Poso, 163.1 km; Section III Tentena (Poso)-Parigi, 204.5 km; Section IV Parigi-Sigi, 111.7 km; and Section V Wawatu (Donggala)-Palu, 127.7 km.

The organizing committee will conduct its second survey on the route to check the road conditions and determine points for sprint and king of mountain in each section.
