Sinabung refugees reach 16,721 people

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEDAN -- Number of refugees who are affected by Mount Sinabung eruption in Karo district, North Sumatra reach 5,666 families or 16,721 residents. Head of Data Information and Public Relations of National Disaster Management (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said that the figure was a data collection until Wednesday afternoon.

Mount Sinabung refugees were accomodated in 30 shelters, such as Los Tiga Binanga (2,402 residents), Payung church (89 families), Payung mosque (37 families), Zentrum Kabanjahe (148 families), Paroki church (402 families), Kabanjahe mosque (183 families), Kota Kabanjahe church (318 families) and Ndorukem Siroga Simpang Empat church (67 families).

Next, Asap Kabanjahe office (18 families), Kutacane street (171 families), Los Desa Sempajaya (762 families), Los Surbakti village (130 families), Berastagi church (32 families), Ora Et Labora building (55 families) and Paroki church (70 families).

The increasing number of refugees as many of them returned to shelters after a few days stayed with their relatives. Nugroho said that logistical supplies were still adequate for next two days. Emergency personnel have distributed two trucks of vegetables.

All refugees still need fuel gas, transportation for children to school, clean water, as well as shower facilities, washing and toilet.
