Govt eyes 20 million foreign tourists in 2025

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GIANYAR - Government sets to draw 20 million foreign tourists to visit Indonesia in 2025. Bali is expected to be the main destination.

Coordinating Minister of Economy, Hatta Rajasa, said Bali, Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) and Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) were in the corridor V in Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development (MP3EI). The focus of corridor V is a gate of tourism and marine-based national food security.

"The main pillar is Bali," Rajasa said on Saturday.

Rajasa explained that Bali had the capacity to support realizing the target. Besides its beautiful nature, Bali is blessed with friendly inhabitants. "If we can maintain the condition, the target will be achieved," he said confidently.

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia from January to October 2012 is 6.58 million people. It rises five percent from previous year. The target for 2012 is 8 million people.
