REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEKASI -- The police have forecast a spike of 20-30 percent in the number of holidaymakers during Eid al-Fitr in 2019 than the previous year, according to Traffic Police Corps Head Inspector Gen Refdi Andri.

"The number of people holidaying this year is estimated to rise. The police have conducted an early joint estimation along with the Transportation Ministry, Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, Jasa Raharja, and Jasa Marga of a 20 to 30 percent increase," Andri noted here on Thursday.

Andri pointed to the high zeal among people to use the Trans Java toll road that was recently opened to drive to their hometowns. "It is expected to not overwhelm the public, but in contrast, (the toll road) will ease the flow of traffic," Andri remarked.

The volume of traffic during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming is projected to peak on three days before D-day (D-3) and two days prior to the D-day (D-2), respectively on May 31 and June 2, he added. On Apr 25-27, Andri and officials of some ministries and related institutions plan on surveying the non-toll route along Java's northern and southern coasts to ensure safety for the Eid al-Fitr homecoming.
