US govt bestows eight awards on KPK employees

KPK employees cooperated with FBI, US Dept of Justice in revealing e-ID card case.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The US government has bestowed awards on eight employees of the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for their success in exposing fraud in the national electronic identity (e-ID) card project. US Ambassador to Indonesia Joseph R. Donovan Jr handed over the awards to the eight KPK personnel comprising investigators, prosecutors, and international cooperation officers.

"Today, Mr Donovan came to discuss (issues) with the KPK leadership, and more importantly, he bestowed awards (on KPK personnel) for their good cooperation with the FBI and the US Department of Justice in revealing the e-ID card case," KPK Deputy Head Laode M. Syarif stated following a meeting with Donovan at the KPK building here on Tuesday.

Donovan said it was truly an honor for him to visit the KPK this time.

"Hence, today we come to recognize and praise the extraordinary and difficult jobs of the KPK that is highly respected in Indonesia," he emphasized.

Donovan said he always respected its cooperation with the KPK. He expressed hope that the cooperation would serve as a model for other parties in combating global corruption.

Meanwhile, Syarif said the meeting also discussed the transfer of assets from Director of PT Biomorf Lone Indonesia Johannes Marliem. Biomorf Lone is a provider of biometric technological service to be used in the e-ID card project.

Marliem died at his residence in Los Angeles, the United States, in August 2017.
