KKB's suppliers trade ammunition for staple foods

KKB's ammunition suppliers were sentenced to 2.5 years in prison.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Three defendants supplying ammunitions for armed criminal groups (KKB) have been found guilty and sentenced to prison for two years and six months. The convicted known by their initials, WH and EW traded ammunitions for staple foods.

"Of the three defendants, each of them had a vital role for the KKB group," said the spokesperson of the National Police, Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo, when confirmed, on Friday (Jan 25).

According to Dedi, WH had a number of weapons ammunition. Some of the ammunitions were allegedly seized from security forces in the Central Highlands region of Papua.

"WH lived in Jayawijaya Regency, Papua," he explained.

Dedi added, EW, another convict, was known as a supplier of large capacity ammunition. EW got ammunition from WH by exchanging it with staple foods.

"EW conducted ammunition transaction with KKB in Lanny Jaya Regency," he explained.

Then, RH, the third convict, acted as an intermediary for WH and EW to carry out ammunition transactions. RH also had a role in helping supply ammunition to the KKB group in the Lanny Jaya Region.

The Jayapura Class IA District Court had conducted a hearing on three defendants supplying KKB ammunition with the initials WH, EW, and RH on Thursday (Jan 24) at 13.15 East Indonesia Standard Time (WIT). Following adjudication of the case by the Presiding Judge of the Jayapura Class IA Court, it was expected that it will have deterrent effect.
