REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Citilink, Indonesia's Cost-Effective Airlines, will soon implement a new policy related to an increase in baggage tariff applicable on all domestic flights. It will be started from Friday, February 8, 2019.

"In order to provide excellent service quality to Citilink's loyal customers amid intense competition in the air transportation industry, Citilink, as the 'no-frills' service provider, will apply new provisions regarding checked baggage rates," Citilink Indonesia Commerce Director Benny Rustanto told journalists here on Monday.

These provisions on checked baggage will only apply to domestic flights. Meanwhile, for Citilink Indonesia passengers on international routes, and passengers, who have become Supergreen and GarudaMiles members, or passengers, who purchase a "Green Seat," will still be allowed baggage of 10 kilograms free.

All passengers, who have purchased Citilink Indonesia flight tickets before February 8, 2019, are still entitled to up to 20 kilograms of baggage despite being scheduled to fly past the intended date. Passengers are also allowed to carry one piece of luggage, with a maximum weight of seven kilograms and maximum dimensions of 58 cm x 46cm x 23cm at no additional cost, into the cabin.

Meanwhile, Citilink Citisport members will be allowed to carry for free 20 kilograms of sports equipment and an additional 10 kilograms of checked baggage free. Citilink Indonesia passengers can also purchase a luggage package before departure to get a more affordable price, with discounts of up to 40 percent.

Baggage purchase can be made on the official Citilink website no later than four hours before departure. However, passengers already at the airport can purchase baggage directly at the check-in counter, or Citilink Indonesia's customer service.

Rustanto drew reference to Article 22, point C, PM 185 of 2015 that stipulates Citilink Indonesia is included in the category of airlines, with "no-frills" services, or services with minimum standards, which can charge fees for carrying checked baggage.

In this initial stage, Citilink Indonesia will conduct intensive dissemination of information on the new policy of checked baggage for the next two weeks, starting from January 25 to February 7, 2019. The new policy on checked baggage will be effective, starting February 8, 2019.

In implementing this policy, Citilink Indonesia has taken steps to disseminate information to both internal and external parties through various media. For internal purposes, awareness is being raised through internal magazines and e-mails aimed at all employees.

Furthermore, external parties will be notified through mass media, such as newspapers and radio, social media, and in-flight magazine. In addition, the management will place a notification banner on each airport check-in counter and announcement will be made by cabin crew, so that all Citilink Indonesia passengers are well-informed.

Citilink Indonesia is optimistic that the latest provisions on checked baggage would work well by continuing to maintain the quality of flight services that always prioritize safety and security for all passengers.
