REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Transportation Ministry will formulate a ministerial regulation on paid baggage. The policy already imposed by some domestic low-cost carriers (LCC).
"We will complete it within three weeks," Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi remarked after a discussion on the document for fishing ship here on Thursday.
He noted that the regulation will also stipulate the ceiling price for the baggage fee. The formula to be discussed later.
"We have to discuss this with the operators," he remarked.
The minister has urged Citilink Indonesia airline to postpone the imposition of paid baggage fees, which was earlier planned to be started on Feb 8. He also called on Lion Air and Wings Air that have already imposed the paid baggage policy to offer a price discount.
"Today, Citilink announced that it has postponed (the paid baggage policy) and will impose it after the regulation is ready. Other airlines that already imposed the fee will adjust it to be more favorable," Sumadi revealed.
Commission V of the House of Representatives had earlier called on the government to postpone the imposition of the paid baggage policy until it completes the evaluation that also takes into account the interest of consumers and the national airlines industry. The legislators have also called on the government to review the increased airfare.
