REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The General Election Commission (KPU) has considered to stop providing presidential candidate pairs the list of questions prior to the presidential election debate. So far, there had been a lot of input from non-governmental institutions and the public in relation to the evaluation of the first election debate.

"We consider inputs from experts and public regarding the evaluation of the debate," General Election Commission (KPU) commissioner, Ilham Saputra, said here on Sunday.

Without handing out the list of questions before the presidential election debate, answers that would be provided by candidates, would be real. The candidates pairs would be able to spontaneously answer questions and argue with the opponent. The KPU will officially hold an evaluation meeting involving all stakeholders on Monday (Jan 21).

In the evaluation meeting, all technical matters will be discussed to make the presidential debate better in the future. The KPU argued that the implementation of the first presidential debate was good from technical implementation.

"We will receive inputs from experts and the community," he remarked.

The first round of the 2019 presidential debate carried the theme of Law, Human Rights, Corruption, and Terrorism. This debate is one of the five presidential debates to be carried out based on Law No.7 of the 2017 elections. The law mandated the presidential debate to be widely broadcast to the people of Indonesia.

The 2019 presidential election is a rematch for both Indonesian presidential candidates, Joko Widodo and Prabowo Subianto, who had previously competed in the 2014 presidential election.
