REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Several representatives of the alumni of Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology's (ITS) Civil Engineering Department came to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) office here on Wednesday. They voiced their support for the anti-graft body's mission and for the police to uncover the recent bomb terror cases.
The ITS alumni condemned the perpetrators of the recent bomb threats at the houses of two KPK's commissioners, Agus Raharjo and Laode Muhammad Syarif. They urged National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian to nab those responsible and send them to trial.
One of the ITS alumni, Samsudin, revealed that they also called on the police to uncover the acid assault case on KPK's leading investigator, Novel Baswedan.
The bomb terrors occurred on January 7. Raharjo's house was terrorized by unknown persons who placed a bag with pipes inside, but the police investigators did not find any explosive materials in the bag, while the home of Syarif was attacked with two cocktail bombs. However, the home-made bombs did not cause any damage to the house.
Raharjo lives in the Graha Indah housing complex, Jatiasih, Bekasi City, West Java Province, while Syarif resides at 42 C South Kalibata Street, Pancoran, South Jakarta. The bomb terrors have revived the public's memories of the acid attack on Baswedan on April 11, 2017.
The assault, which occurred while Baswedan was heading home after performing Fajr, or the Dawn prayer, at a mosque near his house, had harmed his eyes, necessitating medical treatment in Jakarta and Singapore. The acid attack was reportedly launched by two motorcyclists, but they managed to escape and are still at large until now.
The retired police officer had joined the anti-graft agency in 2007 and since then had been frequently terrorized and attacked. In 2012, his motorcycle was seriously damaged after being attacked by supporters of convicted Amran Batalipu, a former district head of Buol, in Central Sulawesi Province.
In connection with Baswedan case, the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) team for monitoring the legal process had called on Karnavian and President Joko Widodo to set up a joint fact-finding team. The rights body has also urged the KPK to take necessary legal measures because the assault on Baswedan could likely be carried out by those being investigated by Baswedan and his colleagues for obstruction of justice.
The anti-graft body was also told to develop its security system to secure all those working for KPK.
