Minister lauds KNKT, Navy for finding CVR of Lion Air JT 610

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi lauded the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) and the Indonesian Navy that managed to find the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) of the Lion Air PK-LQP flight JT-610. He stated that the finding of CVR gave a meaning for the efforts to find the cause of the accident.

"We go all-out to find the CVR," Budi said here on Monday.

The investigation process of data contained in the CVR will take one year. The process depended on the quality of the data.

"We will see how the quality of data can be explored," the minister said.

The Jakarta Fleet Command earlier found the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) of the Lion Air PK-LQP flight JT-610 that crashed in Karawang waters of West Java in October 2018. The CVR was retrieved and kept in a searching vessel.

"We found (the CVR) at 9:10 a.m.," a spokesman of the Fleet Command Lt.Col Agung Nugroho said here on Monday.

The divers team has found the CVR some eight meters below the sea floor. The waters has 30 meters in depth.

A Lion Air plane en route Pangkalpinang, Riau, crashed in Karawang waters on October 29, 2018. All 189 passengers and crews on board were killed. Until the search and rescue team ended its searching operation, only 125 of them have been identified.
