Pimps of online prostitution to be charged under ITE Law

E Java Police have named two suspects as pimps in online prostitution case.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- As a result ofcase expose, East Java Police concluded two suspected pimps in online prostitution case have violated the information and electronic transactions (ITE) Law. The two suspects, known as ES and TN, served as middleman and promoter, respectively.

"The threat of punishment is 6 years in prison," said Spokesperson of East Java Police, Police Comissioner Frans Barung Mangera at the East Java Police Headquarters, in Surabaya, on Wednesday (Jan 9).

In addition, the suspects were also threatened with punishment as stated in Article 296 Jo of Article 506 of the Criminal Code. Barung also confirmed that the two suspects would be detained.

Although the threat of punishment of Article 296 Jo Article 506 is only one year, but the article is an exclusion article, where the suspect can still be detained. "The East Java Regional Police will definitely detain ES and TN for further investigation," Barung said.

The online prostitution case involving female celebrities in Surabaya was revealed by Cyber Criminal Division of East Java Regional Police on Saturday (Jan 5). In that case, the police arrested five people consisting of FTV actrees with initials VA and adult magazine photo model with the initials US, one assistant, and two pimps.
