REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will evaluate procedures pertaining to protection for its personnel following bomb threats at the KPK chief's and deputy chief's residences on early Wednesday. KPK Chairman Agus Rahardjo said the anti-graft body is considering to equipt security personnel of KPK with certain type of weapon.
"We will discuss this in detail," Rahardjo stated here on Thursday.
The system of protection for the anti-graft body's investigators and prosecutors will also be evaluated, he added.
"Efforts to improve security in the KPK, including in its investigation and prosecution, is a must. In the case of Novel (KPK's investigator), we took immediate protection measures," he noted.
Rahardjo refused to speculate about the motive behind the threats, saying he would allow the police to investigate the case.
"We cannot reach any conclusion. Let the police investigate the case. We will give any help they need," he reiterated.
He noted that any threats against the anti-graft body will not discourage them from continuing investigation into corruption cases.
"This should not scare us. Keep fighting. We need support from the public," he stated.
Furthermore, Rahardjo confirmed that the black bag found at his house did not contain any bomb but only white cement.
"Last night, I have (received) the update that the material was not gunpowder but just white cement. However, it was assembled to resemble a bomb," he stated.
KPK Chief Agus Rahardjo and Deputy Chief Laode Muhammad Syarif received bomb threats at their houses on early Wednesday.
A bag allegedly containing a pipe bomb was found hanging on the fence in front of Agus' house by a security guard. However, after inspecting the device, the police confirmed that it had no explosive capability despite its appearance.
Meanwhile, two bottles resembling molotov cocktails were hurled at Syarif's residence but failed to explode. The police have confirmed that both incidents did not cause any damages, and the situation at the officials' houses was under control.
