REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) urged Meikarta management to explain the fate of the housing development project to its consumers. Those who had paid advance payment would be harmed following bribery case related to the issuance of property permits.

YLKI executive chairman Tulus Abadi said Meikarta management must ensure sustainability of the project, whether it will be stoopped or continued. According to him, the graft case revealed on red-handed operation by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) caused consumers to worry about the fate of Meikarta’s development.

“If Meikarta project is stopped due to licensing that has not been done or is not correct, or other problems, then government must guarantee the rights of consumers who have already made a purchase transaction,” Tulus said in a written statement on Wednesday (Oct 17).

Tulus assesed government has failed to monitor Meikarta project, so if there is problem that harmed the consumers, the state must be responsible. Based on YLKI data in 2018, complaint over property problems was the highest.

Tulus said about 43 percent of the property complaints involved Meikarta consumers. The majority of the complaints are about down-payment that can not be returned, even though in advertisement it was said refundable.

"In addition, the problem of the property model that is ordered does not exist, even though the advertisement mentions the existence of the model," Tulus added.

YLKI since the beginning had warned people to not conduct any transactions related to the Meikarta project. With the latest graft case, YLKI once again warned people to be careful if they have any plan to make transaction related to Meikarta.
