18 thousand tents needed for C Sulawesi disaster victims

NGOs also have provided around 5,000 tents for C Sulawesi catastrophe victims.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALU — National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said around 18 thousand tents were needed as shelter for refugee following earthquake and tsunami disaster in Palu, Sigi, and Donggala in Central Sulawesi. Most of the victims did not have house due to damage or destroy.

“Not all refugees use large tents, but family tents. If the number of refugees is around 70 thousands divided by four families, so we need 18 thousand tents,” said BNPB deputy for preparedness, Bernardus Wisnu Widjaja on Wednesday (Oct 17).

Earlier, a number of humanitarian agencies or Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and related institutions have distributed tents to help victims after disaster in central Sulawesi. Currently. They provided around 5,000 tents.

“Indonesia Red Cross is also preparing 1,300 tents,” Barnardus added.

Meanwhile, students needed school tents around 800 units. The tents must be distributed in three areas affected by earthquake and tsunami.

Previously, Unicef has sent 200 units of tents to be used as temporary schools. In addition, a number of NGOs also prepare tents to be used, not only as public kitchens but also used as temporary shelters for the victims.
