REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA -- Candidate for Vice President number 01 KH Ma'ruf Amin is ready to echo the jargon of "Islam Nusantara" and "Islam Berkemajuan" (progress). The two jargons have been called upon by the Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah respectively.

This was conveyed by Ma'ruf after meeting former chairman of the Muhammadiyah Buya Syafii Maarif, at Syafii's residence, Nogotirto Housing, Gamping, Sleman, on Monday. "I will always support not only Nusantara Islam but also advancing Islam (Islam Berkemajuan)," Ma'ruf stated.

According to Ma'ruf, this commitment was based on input from Syafii that Amin, as a NU figure as well as a vice president, did not merely bring the Islamic Nusantara jargon, because there are Muhammadiyah who are calling the progress of Islam.

"I am from NU and our jargon is Islam Nusantara. Buya Syafii suggested I should not only carry Islamic Nusantara but also Islam Berkemajuan which has become the motto of Muhammadiyah," he explained.

In the brief meeting, Ma'ruf was received by Shafi in the family room. Syafii was a close friend of Ma'ruf. Later, the two figures also sat on the Steering Board of the Pancasila Ideology Development Board (BPIP).

"I have to quit the BPIP just because I was a vice president candidate. That is the rule," he added.

According to Ma'ruf, there are a number of messages Syafii had entrusted him, including his readiness to become vice president for all Indonesians in a fair manner, both to the supporters and political opponents, if he is elected as vice president in the 2019 presidential election.

"We will still apply the same rule whether they are supporters or political rivals," he noted.
