REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Jakarta Police said suspect in hoax case Ratna Sarumpaet may submit a request to suspend her detention by becoming city prisoner. The investigator would later assess whether she is eligible to be city prisioner or not.
“The request to be city prisoner is the suspect's right, so please submit it,” said Jakarta Police spokesman Argo Yuwono on Monday (Oct 8).
Argo said Jakarta Police investigators has the right to accept or deny the request.
Earlier, Ratna lawyer, Insank Nasrudin planned to submit a request on behalf of his client to be city prisoner with the family's guarantee. The request to be filed based on humanitarian factors as Ratna's age is 69. Insank also guaranteed that his client will not escape or eliminate evidences and repeat other crimes.
Ratna, who was part of Prabowo Subianto - Sandiaga Uno national campaign team claimed she was assaulted in Bandung, West Java, resulting in injuries to her face. Pictures of Ratna with her eyes swollen began circulating on social media on Tuesday (Oct 2).

Ratna fake assault case went viral since it was widely mentioned by Prabowo's camp last week. Ratna made the claim and uttered it to her family as an excuse to get cosmetic surgery.
However, some of politicians and national figures also fooled by the senior activist and playwright. According to chairwoman of the Prabowo Subianto - Sandiaga Uno national campaign team, Nanik S. Deyang, the incident had taken place on Sept 21, near Husein Sastranegara International Airport, Bandung, West Java. However, police found out that Ratna was not in Bandung that day, but at Jakarta hospital specializing in cosmetic surgery.
Ratna then admitted to have lied. She said pictures of her swollen eyes that went viral were the result of liposuction. She apologized to Prabowo and public for her deception.
However, Jakarta Police then arrested Ratna when she will depart to Chile at Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten on Thursday (Oct 4). She has been charged as a suspect under Article 14 Law No. 1/1946 on criminal lw regulations and Article 28 juncto Article 45 Law No. 11/2008 on Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE).
